Project Description
Crucial roles in fruit value chains are played by women, who were often engaged in tasks requiring care, precision, and attention to detail, such as quality evaluation and nurturing social ties. Despite their significant contributions, barriers such as household responsibilities, limited access to high-value positions, and societal perceptions/cultural norms that undervalue their contributions are faced by women. Factors such as women’s education, access to credit, formal training in agriculture, and engagement in off-farm income-generating activities have a positive correlation with their participation in value chains. Participation in collective action are also emphasized to reduce transaction costs and provide greater access to information and knowledge, enhancing women farmers’ participation in fruit value chains.
Therefore, the study is trying to understand the importance of investing in strategies to improve access to information, support services, and networks by women to enhance their participation in fruit value chains.
